ENDANGERED LANGUAGES DOCUMENTATION PROGRAMME
GRANT ROUND 2024 NOW OPEN


The Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants for the documentation of endangered languages globally.  ELDP especially welcomes applications from documenters from language communities, local scholars and students from the country where the language is spoken/signed, as well as collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. There are no restrictions on nationality or host institution, language documenters of any nationality to undertake projects in any part of the world with our funding.

ELDP offers the grant types below:

Small Grants (SG): up to 10,000 Euros for up to 12 months

Individual Graduate Scholarships (IGS): support for PhD students for up to 36 months, including a stipend for living expenses (no salary and no tuition) and fieldwork expenses

Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (IPF): support for early career scholars for up to 24 months, including salary and fieldwork expenses, up to 250,000 Euros

Major Documentation Projects (MDP): any project over 10,000 Euros, lasting up to 36 months, for a maximum of 300,000 Euros 

Legacy Materials Grants (LMG): up to 10,000 Euros to support the digitization and archiving of existing analogue language recordings is at risk of loss or damage

IMPORTANT UPDATES FOR APPLICANTS
NEW APPLICATION SYSTEM: We have a new online application system. Please ensure that you read the instructions carefully when filling in your application form. You will need to submit your application together with your support statements (e.g., references, financial verification). The support statements must be submitted online before the deadline 31st October, 5 pm CET. Get in touch with your institution, your referees and mentor/supervisor as soon as possible to ensure that they will be available to provide their statements.

Applications (includes support statements required for your applications) must be submitted online by 31st October, 5 pm CEST

Notification of results will be by 15th April


NOTE TO APPLICANTS
Your application will be evaluated also with regard to your track record in the creation, the preservation and sharing of documentary materials. If you already have collected and created documentary materials (e.g., audio/video recordings, transcription, translation and annotation of recordings, lexical databases or word lists) you should provide a link to your archival collection. If you have not archived yet, we encourage you to archive your materials providing evidence for your commitment to documentary agenda.


NOTE TO PREVIOUS GRANTEES AND CURRENT GRANT HOLDERS
If you and/or your project participants currently hold a grant with us or have held a grant with us before, you need to ensure that the documentation materials from your and/or your project participants' grants have been deposited at ELAR. The quality of your deposit and your track record with ELAR and ELDP will form part of the evaluation of your current application. ELDP will not make a formal offer until other projects supported by us have been completed with a deposited collection which is evaluated satisfactorily by the panel.
